The Remnant
A Shadow-Seekers Novel
© 2008 by Jean-Christine LeGendre

The Shadow-Seekers. The Unlikely.
The Chosen.

Since the beginning of time, demons have sought entrance into the living world. But when a demon finally manages to blast through the gateway and take over a human body, spirit and matter collide, and a fragment of the human's soul breaks off.

The demon takes up residence inside this broken fragment, this remnant of a soul, and finally gains entrance into the living world. But to stay it must prevent the Remnant from reuniting with the damaged soul left behind in the human. If the demon kills the human, the Remnant remains in its host forever. If the demon fails, the human can reunite with its Remnant, expel the demon and become whole again.

The first time a demon attempted to breach the living world, it targeted a seemingly likely subject--Gracie Greer, a society throwaway who wouldn't be missed if possessed or killed in the attempt. But Gracie didn't die. Her soul didn't fragment in the collision.

Because an angel broke all the rules and got in the way.

Now Gracie is connected to both the physical and spiritual realms. But she doesn't understand why. She only knows that hell is real and Remnants are popping up everywhere.

And she's the only one who can see them.

Which is why the demons want her dead.

Our only hope.
